About Us
Sri Lions Wine is a family-owned boutique wine producer in Australia. We are focused on producing small batches of wine from grapes growing in iconic regions in South Australia. We are also passionate about crafting wines that highlight the region and influences the organoleptic characteristics of the grape varieties with great taste and quality.
In order to ensure maximum quality for producing premium boutique wine, our grapes are lovingly tended from the start of the season, treated carefully and hand harvested at the right time.
How It Began
Sri Lions Wine was officially launched in 2020 after being granted the liquor production and sales licence by the Government of South Australia. Our grapes are sourced from some of the finest vineyards across South Australia such as Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, and Riverland. Our winemaker works close with South Australian wine grape growers and small vineyard owners to produce the finest grapes that stretch the wine styles of the Sri Lions Wine brand.
Where Do Our Grapes Come From?
Barossa Valley
One of the oldest wine growing regions in Australia, the Barossa Valley boasts 6th generation wine growers.
Located North of Adelaide, the Barossa Valley is classified as having a Mediterranean climate which experiences great weather extremes and low humidity. The altitude in the region varies from 112 to 596 metres. As a result, vineyards located around the Valley floor experience warmer growing conditions than those located on the surrounding hills. This diversity in climate enables the region to grow delicate white wines as well as popular reds.

During the growing season, the Barossa Valley has an average rainfall of 220mm with a mean temperature of 21.9°C. Soils vary from clay loam to sand but are mostly rich and deep.

The most popular grape varieties grown in this area are:

Shiraz
Typically demonstrating blackberry, blackcurrant, plum, and cherry flavours.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Generally has a softer mouthfeel than the same wines from cooler regions and exhibits blackcurrant, black olive, and mint flavours.

Grenache
A lighter style of red wine when compared to Shiraz or Cabernet, the Barossa Valley Grenache features berry and pepper flavours. Grenache is often blended with Shiraz and Mourvèdre to produce the classic GSM blend.
McLaren Vale
The McLaren Vale is one of the most environmentally conscious and progressive wine regions in Australia.
Located south-east of Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula, bordered by the Mount Lofty Ranges on one side and the coast on the other, McLaren Vale experiences warm summers and mild winters. This gives it the classification of a warm Mediterranean climate.

During the growing season, this region receives 226mm of rainfall on average with a mean temperature of 21.3°C. Its altitude ranges from sea level to 417 metres and has one of the most geologically diverse soils in the world.

The most popular grape varieties grown in this area are:

Shiraz
McLaren Vale's signature wine. Flavours vary across the region due to its diverse soil conditions.

Cabernet Sauvignon
The cool sea breeze has the greatest impact on this variety. McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon typically has a rich flavour and is suitable for cellaring.

Grenache
Grenache wines grown in this region typically offer notes of spice and are lighter in flavour.
Coonawarra
The Coonawarra boasts a strip measuring approx. 2km x 25km of terra rossa soil - a rare, rich red loamy soil, overlaying limestone, and a terroir throughout the world.
Located on the Limestone Coast near the Victorian border, the terra rossa soil found there provides an ideal drainage system for the grapevines. The region's topography is also unusual because it's completely flat, without any rivers or valley slopes. Its altitude ranges between 51 and 127 metres.

The climate is bracingly cold in winter with chilly winds coming straight off the ocean. In summer, the region is dry and often cloudy. During the growing season, the Coonawarra recieves an average rainfall of 260mm with a mean temperature of 20.1°C.

The most popular grape varieties grown in this area are:

Shiraz
Historically, Shiraz was the main grape variety grown in this region. It's often lighter in flavour than those found in other South Australian regions.

Cabernet Sauvignon
Coonawarra is now responsible for growing some of the world's best Cabernet Sauvignon. From this region, the wine typically shows blackberry, dark cherry, and mint flavours. Most of the time, Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon requires cellaring to settle the flavour.

Merlot
Often blended with Cabernet, Coonawarra Merlots are typically full-flavoured.
Riverland
The Riverland has a Mediterranean climate, with long sunny days and cooler nights. These ideal conditions make it Australia's most productive wine growing region by tonnage.
The Riverland region is located north-east of Adelaide and close to the Victorian border. It has a mean temperature of 24.3°C and average rainfall during the growing season at 148mm. The landscape is mostly flat, ranging from 0 to 99 metres.

Riverland soil comes in two main types - river valley soils, which consist of sandy loams over clay subsoils, and mallee soils. Mallee soils are located on higher ground and consist of wind-blown sands over lime and clay layers.

The most popular grape varieties grown in this area are:

Shiraz
Riverland Shiraz is known for its fruit-filled wines with strong berry flavours.

Adelaide Plains
The Adelaide Plains is a well-established farming area that has traditionally focused on growing fruit, vegetables, flowers, olives, and, more recently, wine grapes.
North of Adelaide, the Adelaide Plains has the ocean to the west and the Barossa Valley to the east.
As the name suggests, it's a low-lying region with an altitude ranging between 0 and 154 metres. On average, it offers a warmer climate with a mean temperature of 23.5°C. Summers tend to be hot and dry. During the growing season, the average rainfall lis 180mm.
